So I decided to go with pintech RS-5T triggers on my kit for snare and toms. I use Axis E-kits on my pedals. I am running an Alesis DM5. Im really new to this and getting really frustrated and cant find any information online anywhere for acoustic triggers so here are my current problems;

I mounted a trigger on my snare around the 10 o'clock position and it triggers nicely. my only problem there is when i hit my bass drum, I cant trigger my snare. its like it the DM5 has a setting that cancels it out. I had the snare plugged into #4 in the back, I moved it down to #12 and now no problem i can trigger snare and bass at the same time. After a lot of google-ing and surfing youtube im guessing that has something to do with the group button and hi-hats. When i change the group number from 1 to something else it changes some of my other triggers groups also. pain in the butt.

The trigger trap does not fit on my 8" tom. the tension rod is to close to the rim for the hole on the trigger trap to line up. Since I can not mount the trigger trap I have just stuck it on the head also in the 10 o'clock position. It only stayed put for maybe one song. Now it is no longer sticky and flies off when I hit the drum. How can I get it to stay attached? Super glue? Duct tape? maybe something else lol.

The next trigger is on my 10" tom at the 12 o'clock position. works great, no issue.

Next trigger is on my 12" tom at the 2 o'clock position. this is my most troubling trigger. It seems like the trigger trap pushes down so hard on the trigger that its not triggering at all. even if I hit the trigger with my stick its not going off. If i hit the drum really hard it will trigger. if I loosen the tension rod then my tom is out of tune real bad and to loose to play. If i remove the trigger trap then we are back to the "it wont stay put" problem.

14" tom trigger works great, and the 16" tom double triggers pretty bad but fixable not concerned with it right now

So I have only had an alesis DM5 for two months and only been using it for my E-kits triggers which are activated by touch not vibrations. So when it comes to my settings for these RS-5T triggers on the snare and toms im at a total loss and guessing. What should I be setting my Gain, V Curve, X Talk, Decay, and Noise to? I play fast metal with lots of blast beats and quad drum rolls that the triggers (the ones that work) dont always pick up cleanly.

I decided to go for triggers to clean up our recordings but im close to ripping all the triggers off the set lol Ok not really ive invested to much money into this trigger stuff, it must work!

I am a noob and any tips would be greatly appreciated .

Thank you for your time and sorry for such a long post!

Mike, wow! Lots of stuff, had to process it all.....ok first off, with the DM5 what you are experiencing are problems with polyphony (how many notes that can be played at one time) I believe they claim 16, but that has always been an issue with the DM5, it's old technology, even if you purchase a new one today, still the same old DM5 that came out 15 years ago.

The group setting really shouldn't be messed with. What it is really designed to do is allow sounds to cancel one another out...like the hi hat. When you go from open to closed, you want that closed sound to disappear, not "resonate." The problem with the snare can be adjusted out by raising the xtalk, noise and threshold on the channel that it is in. My guess, is that when you moved channels, you moved it to a channel that had been turned up in those areas.

In regard to the 8" and the adhesive trigger issue....you can send Pintech an email and they can probably hook you up with new sticky pads for the triggers email play@edrums.com Make sure you clean the head with alcohol where you are going to stick the trigger to remove any residue (and let it dry). You can also stick the triggers to the shell! (same applies to your 12")

Actually, your acoustic triggers work the same exact way your e-kit does. The e-kit has the same component (piezo), it's just mounted inside the drum. If you get the chance, watch my video in Pintech's videos for the DM5, the settings will be a little different for acoustic triggers, but not drastic. V curve should always be linear, xtalk and noise are very similar in they prevent unwanted triggering, raise them a little at a time on drums that are falsely triggering, but not too much that they start to cut out.

The best piece of advice that I can give you is sit down and read the manual to the DM5. That's the best tool you can have, so that you understand what the settings mean/do. If you don't have the manual, please feel free to email me brian@hopedrums.com and I can send you a pdf version.
